What will you do and learn whilst on a sail training voyage?

Learning knots and ropework is an important element of the RYA training schemeSailing is an excellent team-working activity and you will be placed in an unusual and exciting environment, learning important new skills and often working with people you may not have met before.

A sail training voyage with Adventures Offshore is so much more than just a “sailing trip” - we aim for it to be a fun adventure and a potentially life changing experience. Many participants later include their experience on their CV’s, university and job applications, personal statements, etc.

During your time with us, you can expect to learn about all aspects of running the yacht. You will experience steering under engine and sail power, you will learn how to handle sails, and how to keep an efficient lookout. Below deck, you will be able to assist in navigation duties and keeping the ship’s log up to date, as well as preparing meals and keeping the boat clean and tidy.

You will spend time at sea, often out of sight of land - and range of a mobile phone signal! You will visit interesting and often beautiful harbours and anchorages. You will play daft games, sing silly songs and hopefully form new friendships with your fellow crew.

Formal recognition for your experience on board is possible in the form of RYA qualifications and voyages can qualify as part of the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen’s Scout and similar award schemes. Every year, we have young people use one of our voyages as their QSA or DoE Gold residential project. Follow the links below for more information on each of these.
